Cudjoe Key is a very small coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of Florida. With a population of 1,737 people and just one neighborhood, Cudjoe Key is the 423rd largest community in Florida.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Cudjoe Key is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Cudjoe Key is a town of sales and office workers, construction workers and builders, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Cudjoe Key who work in office and administrative support jobs (16.28%), sales jobs (13.44%), and management occupations (9.29%).
Of important note, Cudjoe Key is also a town of artists. Cudjoe Key has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Cudjoe Key's character.
Also of interest is that Cudjoe Key has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
Cudjoe Key is a major vacation destination. Much of the town's population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependant on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Cudjoe Key's population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.
The town is also nautical, which means that parts of Cudjoe Key are somewhat historic and touch the ocean or tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Quite often, nautical areas such as these attract visitors and locals who come to enjoy the scenery and various waterfront activities.
Being a small town, Cudjoe Key does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
In terms of college education, Cudjoe Key is somewhat better educated than the 14.96% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 21.48% of adults 25 and older in the town have at least a bachelor's degree.
The per capita income in Cudjoe Key in 2000 was $27,085, which is upper middle income relative to Florida, and wealthy relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $108,340 for a family of four.
