Alva is a very small town located in the state of Florida. With a population of 2,818 people and just one neighborhood, Alva is the 334th largest community in Florida.
Occupations and Workforce
Alva is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 86.19% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Alva is a town of sales and office workers, managers and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Alva who work in office and administrative support (19.09%), management occupations (17.26%) and sales jobs (10.96%).
Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 11.67% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
Setting & Lifestyle
It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Alva has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Alva has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Alva than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Alva may be for you.
One downside of living in Alva is that it can take a long time to commute to work. In Alva, the average commute to work is 36.60 minutes, which is quite a bit higher than the national average.
As is often the case in a small town, Alva doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.
