About Lake City
Lake City is
a tiny town
located in the state of
Colorado.
With a population of
361 people
and
just one neighborhood,
Lake City is the
195th
largest community in
Colorado.
Because occupations involving physical labor dominate the local economy,
Lake City is generally considered
to be a blue-collar town. 35.5%
of the Lake City workforce is
employed in blue-collar occupations, compared to the national average of 24.7%.
Overall, Lake City is
a town of
construction workers and builders, sales and office workers,
and managers.
There are especially a lot of
people living in Lake City who work
in sales jobs (17.29%),
management occupations (11.22%),
and office and administrative support jobs (7.48%).
Also of interest is that Lake City has
more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.
Telecommuters are a relatively large
percentage of the workforce:
19.40%
of people work
from home. While this number may seem small
overall, as a fraction of the total
workforce it is high relative to the
nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in
knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon
Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute.
Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who
operate small businesses out of their homes.
Lake City is
a major vacation destination.
Much of the
town's
population is seasonal: many people own
second homes and only live there part-time, during the
vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that
many of the businesses are dependant on tourist dollars,
and may operate only during the high season. As the
vacation season ends, Lake City's
population drops significantly, such that year-round
residents will notice that the city is a much
quieter place to live.
One of the benefits of Lake City
is that there is very little traffic. The
average commute to work is
16.57
minutes, which is substantially less than the
national average. Not only does this mean that
the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise
and pollution levels are lower as a result.
Being a small town,
Lake City does not have a public
transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
Lake City Information and Demographics

citizens is substantially higher than the average US city or town,

which is upper middle income relative to
Colorado and the nation.
