Julesburg is a very small town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 1,824 people and just one neighborhood, Julesburg is the 125th largest community in Colorado. Julesburg has a large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic towns in the country.
Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Julesburg is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Julesburg is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and service providers. There are especially a lot of people living in Julesburg who work in office and administrative support jobs (13.15%), farm management (9.39%), and sales jobs (8.69%).
Another important characteristic of Julesburg is that a lot of people work in agricultural jobs, especially compared to most other communities in America, and there are quite a number of farms in town.
One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 9.59% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
One of the benefits of Julesburg is that there is very little traffic. The average commute to work is 14.78 minutes, which is substantially less than the national average. Not only does this mean that the drive to work is less aggravating, but noise and pollution levels are lower as a result.
Being a small town, Julesburg does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
The percentage of adults in Julesburg with college degrees is slightly lower than the national average of 14.96% for all communities. 13.22% of adults in Julesburg have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
The per capita income in Julesburg in 2000 was $15,469, which is lower middle income relative to Colorado and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $61,876 for a family of four.
The people who call Julesburg home come from a variety of different races and ancestries. The most prevalent race in Julesburg is White, followed by Hawaiian. Julesburg also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 13.05% of the town's residents. Important ancestries of people in Julesburg include German, Irish, English, Swedish, and Scotch-Irish.
The most common language spoken in Julesburg is English. Some people also speak Spanish.
