About Breckenridge

Breckenridge is a somewhat small town located in the state of Colorado. With a population of 7,449 people and two constituent neighborhoods, Breckenridge is the 60th largest community in Colorado.

Unlike some towns where white-collar or blue-collar occupations dominate the local economy, Breckenridge is neither predominently one or the other. Instead, it has a mixed workforce of both white- and blue-collar jobs. Overall, Breckenridge is a town of sales and office workers, service providers, and managers. There are especially a lot of people living in Breckenridge who work in sales jobs (14.92%), management occupations (14.56%), and food service (12.75%).

Of important note, Breckenridge is also a town of artists. Breckenridge has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Breckenridge's character.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their homes - 7.65% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Breckenridge is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the town's population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Because of this, much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.

For a small town, there is also a high proportion of single, often educated, people living in Breckenridge. This is not typical for most smaller communities in America, and adds a feeling of vibrancy to Breckenridge.

Residents of the town have the good fortune of having one of the shortest daily commutes compared to the rest of the country. On average, they spend only 15.31 minutes getting to work every day.

Breckenridge is a small town, and as such doesn't have a public transit system that people use to get to and from their jobs every day.
