About Mendocino

Mendocino is a tiny coastal town (ie. on the ocean or tidally-influenced rivers) located in the state of California. With a population of 761 people and just one neighborhood, Mendocino is the 696th largest community in California.

Mendocino is a decidedly white-collar town, with fully 86.74% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Overall, Mendocino is a town of sales and office workers, managers, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Mendocino who work in management occupations (22.81%), office and administrative support jobs (19.36%), and sales jobs (10.34%).

Of important note, Mendocino is also a town of artists. Mendocino has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Mendocino's character.

A relatively large number of people in Mendocino telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 11.94% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

One of the nice things about Mendocino is that is it nautical, meaning that parts of the town are somewhat historic and on the ocean, or touch tidal bodies of water, such as inlets and tidal rivers. Because of this, visitors and locals will often go to these areas to take in the scenery or to enjoy waterfront activities. This is definately true of Mendocino, which supports a strong tourist economy.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Mendocino spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 7.79 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the town are less than they would otherwise be.

As is often the case in a small town, Mendocino doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

Mendocino Information and Demographics
