Dewey is a somewhat small town located in the state of Arizona. With a population of 6,862 people and just one neighborhood, Dewey is the 57th largest community in Arizona.
Dewey is neither predominently blue-collar or white-collar, instead having a mixed workforce of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs. Overall, Dewey is a town of sales and office workers, construction workers and builders, and professionals. There are especially a lot of people living in Dewey who work in office and administrative support jobs (15.87%), sales jobs (12.82%), and management occupations (9.99%).
A very large number of seniors call Dewey home: people 65 and over are 31.22% of the population. Because of the prominence of the retirement community, this is good place for the over-65 crowd to settle, as many of the town's services and social community are geared to this demographic.
One downside of living in Dewey, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 30.22 minutes every day commuting to work.
Dewey is very much a car-oriented town. This is because the population of Dewey isn't large enough or dense enough to support an extensive public transit system. It has a lot of rural roads, and the distance between houses can be quite large, which together tends to discourage walking and bicycling to work. 97.13% of residents commute to work in their own car (and the drive is typically to a job out of town). People also tend to drive out of town for other services as well, such as shopping, doctors appointments, and more.
Being a small town, Dewey does not have a public transit system used by locals to get to and from work.
In terms of college education, Dewey is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 14.96%: 14.57% of adults 25 and older in Dewey have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
The per capita income in Dewey in 2000 was $20,448, which is upper middle income relative to Arizona and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $81,792 for a family of four.
